It is 1969, and in the aftermath of the riots, Dr. King’s assassination, and the rise of the black power movement, a young man named Stirling comes to Memphis Lee’s diner where customers have gathered for decades to share their struggles, faith, and hopes. But this diner has been slated for demolition in the city’s new redevelopment plan, and what unfolds is Wilson’s most compassionate and humorous work about lives in transition, evolving social awareness, and spirits rising.

"American Stage continues its impressive series of August Wilson's Century Cycle plays with 2 Trains Running. Director Bob Devin Jones draws fine performances from a strong cast… Wilson is, as always, dealing with big issues: freedom and justice, love and loss, violence and hard-won peace. … entirely individual, believable characters, their stories cast in a balance of drama and comedy...Rich and full of rhythm and beauty…an entertaining and thought-provoking trip." -Colette Bancroft, Tampa Bay Times

"A spirited, engaging production with more laughs than one might expect…Comedy, tragedy and romance are served well." Walt Belcher, Tampa Tribune

FIVE STARS - "Two Trains Running stops Leib in his tracks… Bob Devin Jones directs a virtually flawless production…[A] brilliant, radiant drama… Beautiful and resonant beyond any paraphrasable meaning... It’s also, hopeful; which makes it all the more urgent that you add it to your busy schedule…Wilson uses each moment potently…If you believe in art – that it can redeem life, validate it, vindicate it — try this splendid drama." – Mark E. Leib, Creative Loafing

"Catch 2 Trains Running: Wilson’s funniest play, but it’s every bit as bristling and provocative as the others…Bob Devin Jones directs the show and does a dazzling job, eliciting strong performances from seven very different actors. He also keeps the nearly three-hour show’s pacing tight." -Gina Vivinetto, articulatesuncoast.com

"Grateful to have American Stage's commitment to this impressive project…The characters are so richly drawn that the audience becomes involved in the many strands…Costume design by Saidah Ben Judah is excellent."  - William S. Oser, Talkinbroadway.com

"Amazing…an exceptional piece of work…American Stage has packed the house for this show and it is easy to see why…The play is full of marvelous characters…Kim Sullivan (Memphis) has awesome comic timing…Alan Bomar Jones (Holloway) is spot-on perfect…ranney [is] awe inspiring…the entire set dressing is filled with exacting detail." -La Rita Jacobs, Pinellasreader.com
