American Stage After Hours American Stage Theatre Company continues its new experiment of producing edgier shows after Mainstage plays have finished for the night.
THE SANTALAND DIARIES
by award-winning author David Sedaris December 2 thru 28
Tickets are "Pay-What-You-Can"
The holiday season has been called the most wonderful time of the year. Bull*&%# says Crumpet, the unemployed, chemically dependent writer who takes a job as a "helper elf" at Macy's Santaland in NYC! His tale of mass marketing, stressed out sales clerks, drunk Santas, screaming kids and the general insanity of the holidays is hilarious and meant for MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY!!!!
A favorite of NPR, and award-winning author of such books as "When You Are Engulfed in Flames", Sedris' cutting, sardonic wit is on full display with this one-man show starring local favorite Brian Shea (Othello). A must see hit for anyone who sees the holiday season a little differently from what the television wants us to believe.
Drinks and food will be allowed into the seating area. Special show themed alcoholic beverages will be offered for sale, as well as the theatre's usual open bar.
Performances and ticket prices are as follows:
Wednesday thru Saturday evening curtain is at 10:30 p.m.
Tuesday and Sunday matinee curtain is at 7 p.m.
Tickets price is "Pay-What-You-Can" at the door.

THOM PAIN (based on nothing)
by Will Eno
January 26 - February 17
Tickets are "Pay-What-You-Can"
He's just like you, except worse. He is trying to save his life, to save your life - in that order. In his quest for salvation, he'll stop at nothing, be distracted by nothing, except maybe a piece of lint, or the woman in the second row. A Finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize, "THOM PAIN (based on nothing)" is a wry monologue in which an ordinary man, Thom Pain, muses on childhood, yearning, disappointment and loss. Cataloguing the eternal agonies of the human condition, Thom Pain draws his audience into his last-ditch plea for empathy and enlightenment.
The New York Times hailed Will Eno as, "Samuel Beckett for the Jon Stewart generation," and called Thom Pain (based on nothing), "Astonishing in it's impact… It's one of those treasured nights in the theatre - treasured nights anywhere, for that matter." Opening January 26 and playing 18 performances only, this limited engagement stars T. Scott Wooten as Thom Paine and is directed by Julie Rowe.
Thom Pain (based on nothing) is produced by Economic Stimulus Productions. EcStim most recently brought to the stage Reefer Madness: The Play!!! and the music of Tom Lehrer to Tampa Bay with two New York style cabarets. Independent theatre can be a financial burden to produce, but thanks to The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 signed into law by President George W. Bush, Producers Julie Rowe and T. Scott Wooten decided against buying plasma-screen-HD-television-sets and instead pooled their tax rebate checks together to produce live theatre. Economic Stimulus Productions is proud to be producing performance art fully funded by the United States Government. Thanks Mr. President!!!
Thom Pain (based on nothing) will be performed on the following schedule: Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays at 7:00pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 11:30pm, January 26 - February 17. Performances will take place at American Stage Theatre Company, 211 Third Street South, St. Petersburg. Tickets are "Pay-What-You-Can" for all performances. There will be a cash bar, Jello-shots and $2 PBR every night. Mature Audiences Only. Reservations can be made by calling 727/823-7529.
