THE WAY OF THE WATER AUDITIONS:

American Stage is seeking 4 actors in their 30's (2m/2f) for a reading of Caridad Svich's new play, THE WAY OF THE WATER which will receive one public reading at American Stage on Saturday, April 28, and one previous rehearsal tbd). Email Todd Olson asap at candtolson@aol.com.

THE WAY OF THE WATER addresses the two-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon BP oil spill and its aftermath and its effects on human health and the environment in the US Gulf region. Other theatres across the county reading this work include Austin Scriptworks, California Institute of the Arts, Theatre Incognita in Ithaca, NY, East LA Rep, Emerson College & Atomic Age Theater Company in Boston, Frank Theatre in Minneapolis, ion theatre company in San Diego, Main Street Theatre in Houston, Teatro Paraguas in Santa Fe, Vortex Theatre in Albuquerque, and over 20 universities including Carnegie Mellon and UC-Davis.

American Stage Theatre Company’s 2012-2013 Season

Production Dates:
HYSTERIA: FRAGMENTS OF AN ANALYSIS OF AN OBSESSIONAL NEUROSIS by Terry Johnson will be directed by Todd Olson and is a co-production with Wellfleet Harbor Actor’s Theatre in Wellfleet, MA. HYSTERIA will begin rehearsals in MA about July 17, open August 9 and run for 4 weeks, closing about September 2. It will then move to St. Petersburg, FL where it will preview September 19 and 20, open Friday, September 21, and run 6 weeks, closing Sunday, October 28.

WIT by Margaret Edson will be directed by Todd Olson and will begin rehearsals September 25, previews October 21-25, opening Friday, October 26, running two weeks, closing Sunday, November 4.

A DOLL’S HOUSE by Henrik Ibsen will be directed by TBA, will begin rehearsals about October 23, previews November 14 and 15, opens Friday, November 16, and will run 6 weeks, closes Sunday, December 23.

THE PIANO LESSON by August Wilson will be directed by Mark Southers, and will begin rehearsals about December 26, preview January 16 and 17, opens Friday, January 18, run 7weeks, and close Sunday, March 3.

WHEN THE WORLD WAS GREEN (A CHEF’S FABLE) by Sam Shepard will be directed by TBA, will start rehearsals March 5, preview March 20 and 21, open Friday, March 22, and run 5 weeks, closing Sunday, April 21.

THE AMISH PROJECT by Jessica Dickey will be directed by TBA, will start rehearsals will start rehearsals March 5, preview March 20 and 21, open Friday, March 22, and run 7 weeks, closing Sunday, May 5.

7 HOMELESS MAMMOTHS WANDER NEW ENGLAND by Madeleine George will be directed by TBD, will begin rehearsals April 30, preview May 22 and 23, open Friday, May 24, run  5 weeks, and close Sunday, June 23.

MY NAME IS ASHER LEV by Aaron Posner (after Chiam Potok) will be directed by TBD, will start rehearsals June 25, previews July 10 and 11, open Friday, July 12, run 7 weeks, closing Sunday, August 25.

ART by Yasmina Reza will be directed by TBD, will start rehearsals June 25, previews July 10 and 11, open Friday, July 12, run 5 weeks, closing Sunday, August 11.

An open call for 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE in the Park will take place at a later date.

Roles to be Cast:
HYSTERIA: OR FRAGMENTS OF AN ANALYSIS OF
AN OBSESSIONAL NEUROSIS
Sigmund Freud, an energetic old man. Salvador Dali, a small, tall Spaniard with a strange mustache and a talent for painting. Jessica, a woman in her late 20’s or early 30’s. Abraham Yehuda, a large man in his 60’s, and even greater weight and status than Freud.

WIT:
Vivian Bearing, PhD is 50 years old, a professor of seventeenth-century poetry at the university, diagnosed with stage IV, metastatic ovarian cancer. Please know that because of the nature of the story, the performance will require the actress to shave her head, and includes a brief moment of nudity in the final moment. Harvey Kelekian, MD – 50 years old, chief of medical oncology at the University Hospital. Also plays Mr Bearing, Vivian's father. Jason Posner, MD – 28 years old, a clinical fellow at the Medical Oncology branch; former student of Dr Bearing. Susie Monahan, RN, BSN - 28 years old, Dr Bearing's primary nurse. Dr. E. M. Ashford, - 80 years old, professor emerita of English literature; Vivian's former college professor. Assorted lab technicians and students

A DOLL’S HOUSE:
Torvald Helmer, 32-45, a bank manager. Nora, his wife, 30-40, a smart wife and mother. Doctor Rank, 50-60, a wise man of great feeling. Mrs. Linde, 30-40, a simple woman seeking companionship. Nils Krogstad, 30-40, a former bank employee turned blackmailer.

THE PIANO LESSON:
Doaker Charles, 47, the story teller and owner of the Charles household. Boy Willie, 30, Berniece's impulsive brother recently out of prison. Lymon, 29, secretive and shy, wishes to start a new life in the north. Berniece, 35, the adamant guardian of her ancestors' past. Maretha, 11 year old daughter of Berniece. Avery Brown, 38, a preacher who has been attempting to court Berniece. A man of honest and good intentions. Wining Boy, 56, comical elder brother of Doaker, aspires to become a successful musician and gambler. Grace, an attractive woman whom the men find desirable.

WHEN THE WORLD WAS GREEN (A CHEF’S FABLE):
Old Man, in his 60’s or 70’s, a prisoner as a result of his murdering a man. Interviewer, a mysterious young woman about 25.

THE AMISH PROJECT:
One actress plays 7 roles as diverse as a 14 year old Amish girl, a 16 year old pregnant Hispanic girl, a 31 year old widow, a 50 year old male professor, a 53 year old non-Amish woman, and the 33 year old mass murder, Eddie Stuckey.

7 HOMELESS MAMMOTHS WANDER NEW ENGLAND:
Dean Wreen, female, late 40’s. Intense, practical, compassionate, stuck. Gail Greer, female, late 40’s. Intelligent, and suffering from cancer. Andromeda, 20’s. Sensual, idealistic, passionate, and sexual. Early Man 1, male early 20’s. A funny, statuesque cave man. Early Man 2, female, early 20’s. A funny, statuesque cave woman. The Caretaker, male, 60-70’s.

MY NAME IS ASHER LEV:
“Man” plays multiple roles including Asher’s father, Yitzchok Lev, the Rebbe, and Jacob Kahn. “Woman” plays multiple roles including Asher’s mother, Anna Schaeffer, and Rachel. Asher Lev as an adult, but also at ages 6, 7, and 10.

ART:
Marc, an aeronautical engineer with mainstream aesthetic sensibilities. A mentor and bit of a bully. Serge, a successful dermatologist who has longed to become part of the elite crowd. Yvan, a bit of a marshmallow – eager to avoid confrontation and happy to change his views in order to get along.

60% of all casting will be AEA actors; 40% will be non-AEA.
SPT-7 scale next season will be approximately $433/wk.
LOA contracts for WIT and SPELLING BEE approximately $486/wk.
Non-AEA contracts pay between stipend to $250/wk.

How to Audition:

For this call actors should prepare two monologues of their choice, not to exceed 3 minutes. No songs need be prepared for this open call; an open call for SPELLING BEE in the Park will take place at a later date. Non-Equity actors will be put on a waiting list and will be seen whenever there is no Equity Member auditioning or waiting. Audition slots will last five minutes. There may be callbacks at a later date.

Please note, auditions will be Tuesday, March 27 and Wednesday, March 28 from 10-5. Auditions will take place at American Stage’s Raymond James Theatre, 163 3rd Ave. North, downtown St. Petersburg across from Williams Park. Auditions are by appointment and can be made by calling T. VAGINA MONOLOGUES CASTING NOTICE:

Do you have a vagina? Do you love to talk about it? Once a month, we have openings for guest readers in our ongoing series of “The Vagina Monologues”.

Seeking Women between 25 and 50 years of age, with some background in performance. Limited time commitment for rehearsal, directed by Karla Hartley. Performances will require reading the script at a music stand.
