“Reminiscent of the Marx Brothers…Justin Campbell is unforgettably funny…Stacy Fischer is chilling…superb acting and direction and phenomenal set and lighting…the direction by Todd Olson, the performances and the technical work are wonderful in their own right…The design work is all phenomenal…Scott Cooper's set is exquisite.” “Freud, Dali and madcap madness…a laugh-out-loud comic romp laced with dark interludes… Just as it will make you laugh at life's absurdities, "Hysteria" will also incite your intellectual curiosity to discover more.” -Cape Cod Online “Impressive…[an] unpredictable and intellectual madcap comedy” -Cape Cod Chronicle“Balances laugh-out-loud comedy with deadly serious revelations…Playwright Terry Johnson is a brilliant storyteller, and this production does his script justice…If you miss it at WELLFLEET Harbor Actor’s Theatre, you'll have to go to Saint Petersburg, Florida. But don't miss it here. If anything, go to Saint Petersburg to see it again.” One of the most brilliantly original and entertaining new plays…wild, weird, funny and serious…a factual fantasy, a demented farce…” -London Sunday Times "An exuberant surprise...as unexpectedly resonant as a crazy sonnet" -New York Times Winner of Olivier Award for “Best New Comedy”, Hysteria is based on a stunning, historical meeting between two of the world's greatest and most eccentric men - Sigmund Freud and Salvador Dalí. Set in London in 1938, Hysteria springs from Freud's fanciful mind as he juggles unexpected visits to his home by the famous surrealist painter Dalí and a mysterious young woman named Jessica who can't seem to keep her clothes on. Full of mistaken identities, dazzling surprises, and sheer Freudian slips, the tables are turned as Freud soon finds himself the subject of Jessica's own bizarre form of psychoanalysis while Dalí's surreal imagery creeps into his dreams and consciousness. Mature subject matter and language. Brief nudity. Parental guidance suggested. HYSTERIA was first produced at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in 1993.
