Adaptation by: John Olive
Directed by: Julie Rowe

BOOKINGS AVAILABLE THROUGH DECEMBER

Is your school just a little too…well…normal? Every school should be as much fun as Wayside School! The zany class on the Thirtieth Floor has never had a boring day. Expect the unexpected, but don't get too comfortable, or the teacher, Mrs. Gorf, might turn someone into an apple!! This delightful play by John Olive is based on the award-winning book by Louis Sachar. Filled with twists and turns, the students at Wayside School learn that being different is great, opinions are valuable and having an open mind can help one find the right tasting ice cream for sure!

The 2007 American Stage School Tour Production, Sideways Stories from Wayside School, is an entertaining tale of respecting one another and embracing our individuality. The American Stage School tour is entering its 21st year of making a difference through arts in education. Play titles are major works from children's literature and have included such titles as Bunnicula, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, The Three Musketeers and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The School Tour also brings original works to the stage, most recently with Who Put the Sea Serpent in my Soup?, a play with puppets based on a short story by Hans Christian Andersen.

A Study Guide, following the Sunshine State Standards for educators, enabling them to make the show an active part of their curriculum, accompanies the production. In addition, the cast provides a question and answer session for student audience members following each performance and all students receive a souvenir bookmark.

The American Stage School Tour will reach over 18,000 K-5 students in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties as well as surrounding REDI Counties; Counties designated by the State of Florida as being Rural or Economically Disadvantaged. In addition, the School Tour will visit All Children's Hospital, Youth Arts Corps, Great Explorations, the Children's Museum, and participate in The St. Petersburg Times Festival of Reading and First Night St. Petersburg. The School Tour visit has become an eagerly anticipated event by children and families across Tampa Bay.
