American Stage Theatre Company begins its historic 30th anniversary season with the Florida premiere of the romantic and poignant drama, By the Waters of Babylon, extended thru Oct 19.

With By the Waters of Babylon, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan has created a passionate, tender and bittersweet love story. Catherine is beautiful and outspoken, yet shunned by the neighbors in her small Texas town for reasons unknown. Arturo is the Cuban born day laborer she has hired to rescue her neglected garden. A poet in his native country, he is a broken man with a dark and mysterious past. The hot Texas day turns hotter as these two exiles share a drink and a dance, and try to banish the ghosts that haunt them both. Can these lost souls help one another find their way?

"By the Waters of Babylon is the perfect play to begin our historic 30th anniversary season," said Todd Olson, American Stage's producing artistic director. "This is the first time that this powerful new play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan has been produced in our state."
